| Our team of experts will be working with various Police Departments and retired policemen to develop a sound program and system to improve the quality of service to the developmentally disabled. To many times the police are called into assist with a behavioural episode that a group home is not capable of handling. Often these individuals end up in the court system and spend time in jail or worse loose their group home and end up in one of the penitentiaries. This is cruel and frightening experience for anyone, let alone one with a developmental disability. The police departments do not have the expertise, the time, the training or budget to develop the training courses in this area of expertise. Yet not having this puts our Police and our most vulnerable citizens at risk. In 30 years of closing the institutions, no program to provide integration and communities with this knowledge set or systems has been developed. There are many things that our experts know that can assist the police in answering such calls for help. We aim to develop a computer based system, using the latest in technologies and security, that will work with the Police computer based systems. This program will be available for agencies and families. The program will be directly connected to Police systems when problem arises. Having this information available on how to handle various individuals, the background and required supports for the call can prevent many of these individuals ending up in our court system. Additionally, we will build our team and network so that on difficult situations, the Police Departments can have an expert with them on the call.
